SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The NM State track and field team wrapped up the Aztec Invitational Saturday in San Diego, Calif. The Aggies finished finished fifth with 85 points which was ahead of Pac 12 members California, Arizona and UCLA.

Corinne Hanson got the Aggies going off the right foot as she posted a career-best time of 10:38.62 to take the 3000m steeplechase title. This was Hanson's first individual title since Mar. 17, 2018, when she took first in 3000m steeplechase at the Willie Williams Classic. 

Yemisi Oroyinyin joined Hanson as she took home the shot put title by throwing a career-best 15.40m. This is Oroyinyin's second title ever in the shot put. 

The Aggies next scoring opportunity came in the 100m hurdles when Asjah Wallace (13.95) and Aliyah Logan (14.06) finished fifth and sixth. Logan shredded over .6 seconds from her time last week at the Willie Williams Classic. 

Lanie Whelpley continued her strong season as she finished sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 56.48. 

Terice Steen had an impressive performance in her first ever collegiate 400m hurdles race. Steen finished third with a time of 1:01.98. 

Emily Stutesman and Sheyenne Drake each had good days in the distance races as Stutesman finished third in the 5000m run with a time of 17:32.05. Drake finished seventh in the in the 800m run with a personal-best time of 2:16.11.

In the field. the Aggies had three athletes finish in the top seven in the javelin thrown. Bailey Beene led the way with a personal-best throw of 43.48m. Mariah Humphrey (39.46m) posted a season-best throw to finish fifth. Andi Harrelson finished seventh with a throw of 39.46m. 

The Aggies will be back in action next week at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi in Canyon, Texas.
