Aggies' Distance Crew Heads to Phoenix

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Four NM State track and field athletes will head to Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday for the Canyon Invitational on the campus of Grand Canyon. Jess Dominguez, Maggie Gibbs, Emily Stutesman and Corinne Hanson will be in action on Saturday. 

Dominguez will be the lone Aggie running in the 1500m run. Dominguez ran a personal-best time of 4:47.15 in the event at the Willie Williams Classic on Mar. 19-20. Dominguez also competed in the 5000m run at the Aztec Invitational on Mar. 26-27, where she finished 14th with a time of 18:33.03.

Stutesman and Gibbs will team up to take on the 5000m run. Stutesman has had success this season in the event, as she finished third at the Aztec Invitational after running a personal-best time of 17:32.05. Gibbs also had a solid performance at the Aztec Invitational with a time of 17:58.52. The time was Gibbs's best of her career and earned her a fifth-place finish. 

Hanson will round out the Aggie lineup in the 3000m steeplechase. Hanson won the event at the Aztec Invitational by breaking the school record with a time of 10:38.62.

Dominguez will begin the day for the Aggies at 7:45 p.m. in the 1500m run. Hanson will follow her at 8:45 p.m. in the 3000m steeplechase, and Gibbs and Hanson will finish the day at 10:10 p.m. in the 5000m run.
