Oroyinyin Sets School Record; Steen Finishes Strong at NCAA West Preliminary

| By:
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Yemisi Oroyinyin and Terice Steen each had solid performances Thursday evening at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary in College Station, Texas.

Oroyinyin ended her career as an Aggie on a high note as she broke her own school record in the shot put on Thursday with a throw of 15.93m. Oroyinyin broke her own record by .11m which she set at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Oroyinyin had the fifth-best mark in the first two flights. Unfortunately, Oroyinyin was not able to hold on to one of the 12 spots to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Steen put together one of her best performances as an Aggie in the 400m hurdles as she finished fifth in the fifth heat with a time of 59.67. Her time was her second-best time of the season, just .29 seconds off her personal-best time which she set at the Masked Rider Open. Steen finished just outside the top 24 athletes to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. As a freshman, Steen has already broken the school record in the event and will end her first outdoor season with the best time in the WAC.

NM State will have one more athlete compete in the NCAA West Preliminary as Dascha Robinson will compete in the triple jump at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. For updates and exclusive content, follow the Aggies on Twitter (@NMStateXCTF) and Instagram (@nmstatexctf).
