LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Beginning Monday at 8:15 a.m., golf fans will be in for a treat as the only home tournament of the year for NM State men's golf tees off. The Aggies will host eight other teams in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, alongside a strong field of individual competitors.
Reigning WAC Golfer of the Month
Garrison Smith will lead the way for NM State, playing in the top slot. The one-two punch of Smith and
Aidan Thomas will once again be just that as Thomas finds himself in the second spot of the Aggie lineup.
After finishing seventh at the 2021 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate,
Alvaro Morales will find himself in the middle of the Aggie lineup this week. Newcomers
Javier Delgadillo and
Alexandre Bauduin will also get their first chances to play competitively on the NM State home course. Delgadillo and Bauduin will round out the NM State lineup, playing fourth and fifth, respectively.
River Smalley, Lance Christensen, and
Joseph Robson will compete in the two-day event as individuals.

Every shot of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate can be found on Golfstat. However, fans are encouraged to come support the Aggies in person and the two-day event will be NM State's lone tournament in Las Cruces this season.
The Field
Nine teams will compete in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, beginning Monday. NM State will be joined by California Baptist, Incarnate Word, Seattle U, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M – Commerce, UTRGV, and Weber State. Texas and Texas Tech will send a combined seven individuals to Las Cruces to compete as well.
The Format
The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate will be different than any other tournament that NM State has competed in this year. Instead of competing in groupings against other teams, teams will remain together throughout the day. For all 36 holes on Monday, the five golfers in NM State's lineup will always be found on the same hole.

1 – NM State has one home tournament throughout the 2022-23 season – The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.
11 – Garrison Smith is ranked No. 11 among all Division I golfers in Golfstat's initial rankings.
51 – As a team, NM State comes in at No. 51 nationally in the Golfstat rankings. With a strong showing in the home tournament, the Aggies could make a push towards the highest ranking in school history.
8:15 – Both days of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate will tee off at 8:15 a.m. MT. Admission to the NMSU Golf Course and fans are encouraged to attend.
2 – There will actually be two tournaments taking place at the NMSU Golf Course this week. In addition to the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, NM State is hosting the Herb Wimberly Junior College. Five teams – Midland College, New Mexico Junior College, Odessa College, Ranger College, and South Mountain Community College. The junior college event will also start at 8:15 a.m. both days.
