NM State Closes out Regular Season in Riverside, Calif. Against California Baptist

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State women's soccer will compete in the final regular season matchup this Saturday when they travel to Riverside, Calif. to face California Baptist. 
 
KICKOFF
  • Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. (MT) from CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside, Calif.
  • The Aggies are 4-1-0 during the month of October, most recently taking down Grand Canyon 2-1 last night (10/27). 
  • CBU is currently riding a two-game win streak recently defeating Utah Tech (1-0) and Sam Houston (6-0)
  • NM State currently ranks third in the WAC with a 6-2-2 conference record and 20 points. CBU trails right behind the Aggies with a 5-2-3 record and 18 points.

  • Despite the Aggies allowing a season high 24 shots (nine on goal) in the match. Grand Canyon was still only able to muster up one goal against this bruising Aggies defense. 
  • The Aggies only took ten shots (five on goal).
  • The Lopes and Aggies each had five corner kicks for the match.
  • The Aggies had 15 fouls to the Lopes 13.
  • Loma McNeese scored her team leading ninth goal of the season tying her with Audriana Chavez (2017) for fourth place in school history for the single most goals scored in a season. 
  • McNeese also added her fifth assist of the season. 
  • Bianca Chacon scored her fifth goal and sixth assist of the year. 
  • Makenna Gottschalk kept the Lopes offense in check with eight saves setting a new season high. She now has 67 saves on the season and 211 for her career. 
  • Four yellow cards were handed out during the match: Thalia Chaverria (38'), Leah Pirro (47'), GCU bench (48'), NM State bench (85'). 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • NM State punched its ticked to the WAC Sports Women's Soccer Tournament in Seattle next week with their 2-1 victory against Grand Canyon last night. 
  • This marks the third consecutive season Rob Baarts and his team have secured a spot in the tournament. 
  • The Aggies are top five in the conference in shots (226), points (87), assists (31), assist per game (1.94), goals allowed (14), shutouts (8) and corner kicks (94). 
  • Xitlaly Hernandez is second in the WAC with eight assists. 
  • Loma McNeese is in sole position of fourth place for goals scored in the conference (9).  
  • Makenna Gottschalk ranks second in the conference in shutouts (8), third in goals against average (0.88), fifth in save percentage (.827), and fourth in saves (67).
  • With eight shutouts on the season, Gottschalk surpasses Dimitri Fong for most shutouts in a season, and Erin Wosick for most shutouts in a career (10).
  • Twelve different players have scored goals for the Aggies this season. 
  • 19 of the Aggies 28 goals this season have come in the second half of games. 129 of their 226 shots are also coming in the second half. 
  • NM State is 9-0-1 in games in which they score first.

This will be the final regular season matchup before the team heads to Seattle, Wash. for the WAC Tournament starting November 2. The Aggies play one of the final games of the day, so they should know who they will square up against after the conclusion of the match.
