Complete WAC Release
DENVER - In a release issued by the Western Athletic Conference Tuesday afternoon, senior goalkeeper Makenna Gottschalk was selected as this week's TicketSmarter WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
This marks the second time this season she's brought home the award, and the fourth time in her career she's earned this honor.
Gottschalk is coming off a weekend where she recorded back-to-back shutouts. Against Tarleton, she played all 90 minutes and tallied two saves during the 4-0 victory. Versus Abilene Christian, she also played the entire game and snagged five more saves in a 1-0 win on Sunday.
On the season, Gottschalk ranks top-five in the conference for almost every goalkeeping category - she ranks second in the conference for shutouts (6) and in saves (48), third in save percentage (.828) and goals against average (0.83), and fourth in saves per game (4.00).
