Pair of Aggie Divers Work Way Into Finals on Second Day of NAU Invite

Aranzabal leads NM State with eighth-place finish on Saturday.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After leading the Aggies on Friday, Italia Aranzabal put forth NM State's best performance on Saturday on the one-meter boards.
 
Aranzabal posted a 241.70 in the prelims to finish with the sixth-best score upon completion of the preliminary round. In the finals round, the senior from Mexico City, Mexico, registered a 243.80 to notch an eighth-place finish on day two of the Lumberjack Invite.
 
After a top-20 finish on day one, Lily Ellis managed a score of 217.10 in the prelims to work her way into the top 14 and a spot in the consolation finals. Ellis earned a 211.40 in her second round of dives to finish seventh in the consolation finals.
 
Casey Schmidt posted the Aggies' third-best score on the day as she battled to a 202.35 total score in the prelims to finish 20th.
 
Meanwhile, Jordan Okamoto, Kate Malinowski and Megan Ono completed day two in 22nd, 23rd and 24th, respectively.

"Another great day of progress! Today we had two Aggies make it into the finals. The athletes all brought great energy to the pool today. Which is an important piece to the mental puzzle for championship events. We are all excited about tomorrow's platform event."
 
UP NEXT
The Aggies will conclude their weekend in Arizona on Sunday morning when the NM State dive team competes in the platform event beginning at 10 a.m. MT.
