LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State Athletics will honor the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX with a variety of initiatives throughout the month of March – Women's History Month. The effort will highlight the passage of Title IX and its implications on a national scale, while celebrating and highlighting the success of women's athletics at NM State.
"Thanks to trailblazers such as the late Karen Fey and other Roadrunner pioneers, NM State has enjoyed a rich history of women's athletics since the inception of Title IX," commented NM State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. "Honoring some of the best women student-athletes and administrators this month helps us remain connected to those who laid the groundwork for the success our women's athletic programs enjoy today."
The month-long campaign will highlight the early female trailblazers in Roadrunner athletics history, taking a in-depth look at the women who left their mark on collegiate sports at NM State and who are also enshrined in the US Bank Hall of Fame.
Throughout the month, the department plans to recognize former NM State female coaches, student-athletes and others who have continued to further the legacy of Title IX. Prior to the 2000-21 academic year, all of NM State's women's athletic teams were known as the Roadrunners rather than the Aggies.
