LAS CRUCES, N.M. - One of the nation's best pure scorers had latched on to another individual honor.
As announced Monday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, NM State redshirt junior guard Teddy Allen has been named to the All-District 6 First Team.
Making quite a name for himself in his inaugural season in Las Cruces, Allen adds to a collection of individual accolades which includes the titles of WAC Player of the Year, WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, WAC Newcomer of the Year, WAC All-Newcomer Team and All-WAC First Team.
Colloquially know as "Teddy Buckets" throughout the college basketball landscape, the Phoenix, Ariz., product leads the WAC and ranks 35th nationally in scoring at a clip of 19.2 points per game. Through the 2021-22 campaign thus far, Allen turned in 15 outings of 20 or more points, two 30+ point nights and one 41-point explosion to match his career-high.
Not solely a scorer, Allen enhanced his game in a variety of ways through his debut season in an Aggie uniform. He currently tops the team's charts in rebounding at a clip of 6.9 per game and has totaled seven double-doubles - the third-most among all players in the league.
With Allen on their side, NM State clinched its fourth WAC regular-season title in the last five seasons and posted a 26-6 mark thus far. NM State's WAC mark of 14-4 on the year yielded the top seed in the 2022 WAC Tournament as well.
Allen and the rest of the Aggies are set to head out to Buffalo, N.Y., Tuesday morning where they will be the 12-seed in the West Region of the 2022 NCAA Tournament Field. NM State's 23rd NCAA Tournament appearances begins Thursday at 4:50 p.m. MT from the KeyBank Center as it takes on fifth-seeded and #21/21 UConn in a first-round matchup. TNT is set to televise each and every second of the action.
