THE FIRST SERVE
• The NM State women's tennis team returns to its home venue of the NM State Tennis Complex for the second to late time in 2022 for a non-conference matchup with NCAA Division II adversary UT Permian Basin. First serve has been set for 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
• Freshman Lisa Zhu and senior Gavi Kalaga are the only Aggies who have multiple singles wins to their credit in 2022. Zhu's team-best mark of 5-4 has seen the Beijing, China, product play on lines two, three and four in her debut collegiate season.
• For Kalaga, who has gone 3-9 in one-on-one play, two of her three victories have come on line four.
• Zhu and Chloe Gavino continue to be the Aggies' best doubles team. Winners of each of their last two tandem outings, Gavino and Zhu have racked up a 5-1 record when playing together. Those five wins are half of NM State's 10 total tandem triumphs.
• Saturday's showdown between NM State and UT Permian Basin is the first between the two program since 2018. On Feb. 11 of that year, NM State secured a 7-0 shutout win at home.

• Winners of four matches in a row, UT Permian Basin wraps up a 15-match run of showdowns away from its home courts in Midland, Texas, by paying a visit to New Mexico this weekend.
• Teodora Vrucan, the team's leader in singles wins through 2022, owns a 4-3 record and has emerged as the victor in back-to-back matches. Vrucan has played all of her singles bouts on line one.
• In doubles action, Vrucan has teamed with Brooke Runyan to post a team-best 4-3 mark. Lisa Guitton and Lore Mewis (3-3) have compiled another trio of the Falcons' 11 doubles wins. Both of those pairings have won their last two matches.
COMING UP NEXT
• Following 13-straight non-conference matchups to begin their 2022 slate, the Aggies travel to Stephenville, Texas, to begin Western Athletic Conference (WAC) action. Friday at 2:00 p.m. MT, NM State takes on UTRGV in the first of five consecutive league tilts on the docket.
