PALM DESERT, Calif. – After the first round at the Wyoming Desert Invitational, the NM State men's golf team finds itself in 11th place.
A red-hot start from
Garrison Smith and
Aidan Thomas pushed the Aggies up the leaderboard early on. Smith and Thomas were both tied for first place through the first four holes after shooting two-under on the stretch.
Much like Smith and Thomas,
Joseph Robson played a really consistent first six holes of gold for the Aggies. Robson had made par on each of the first five holes before birdieing the par-three sixth.
Between holes nine and eleven,
Alvaro Morales found his rhythm and knocked down a pair of birdies.
Round One
- In his final ten holes, Aidan Thomas knocked in a trio of birdies to finish with a 70 (-2) on the day. Thomas finished the day inside the top ten and tied for eighth.
- On the front nine, Garrison Smith shot a 33 (-3) to help lead the Aggies throughout the day. Smith finished the day tied for 13th after shooting a 71 (-1).
- After his hot stretch between holes nine and eleven, Alvaro Morales kept it rolling with a birdie on fourteen.
- Joseph Robson shot an even 36 on the back nine to finish the day with a 74 (+2).
- A birdie on the sixth hole was the highlight of the day for Matthew Jackman.
