Corky Classic | Lubbock, Texas | Texas Tech Sports Performance Center

Final Results – Friday

LUBBOCK, T.X. – Day one of the Corky Classic is officially in the books and several of Aggies put up impressive performances, including a couple of first place finishes and a few personal records.

The day started off with the women's weight throw which saw five Aggies take the circle looking to leave their mark. Phethisang Makhethe took home the top overall spot in the event after a personal best throw of 19.41m (63' 8.25") breaking her own NM State record for the second furthest throw in program history (19.39), which she set just a season ago at the WAC Indoor Championships up in Albuquerque.

Makiya Moore finished the event in sixth place after making it into the finals with a 16.66m (54' 8") mark on her second throwing attempt. First year Aggie transfer Miranda Tcheutchoua competed in her first event since coming to NM State and finished in tenth place of the weight throw, just missing the cut by a few inches with a throw distance of 15.98m (52' 5.25"). Emily Birch (formerly Hernandez) and Kaitlyn Ward also just missed the cut finishing right behind Tcheutchoua in the event with 15.77m (51' 9") and 15.73m (51' 7.25") marks. Kaelyn Fenstermacher competed in the weight throw for the first time in her three-year career at NM State and she drew a distance of 12.35m (40' 6.25") for the day.

Moving over to the 1,000m run, Thulisile Amon outlasted the competition by taking first place in the race after an event best time of 3:00.47, falling just shy of her personal record (2:59.00). Angela Korte competed in her first indoor collegiate meet, finishing second in her heat, while crossing the finish line at 3:13.52 taking ninth in the event overall.

In the 200m B selection, Sierra Brewer finished in the top ten of a large 62 women field with a 25.21 time – the second-best indoor time of her career and fifth best overall.

Leah Clark and Jordan Torres took the line for the 3,000m run. For Clark, this marked just the third time she's competed in the event in her young career and came out of the race with a 11:42.18 time taking fourth in the event. Jordan Torres finished seventh in the race after crossing the line at 11:42.18 in the first indoor collegiate meet for the freshman out of El Paso.
