LUBBOCK, T.X. – The final day of the Corky Classic concluded today, and the Aggies had themselves quite the day in a handful of events. Although they couldn't pick up any top finishes today, the team secured multiple top five finishes and had various individuals set new personal records.
The first event of the morning to finish was the mile run.
Thulisile Amon broke her second personal record of the meet after she broke PR in the 1,000m run last night. In the mile, Amon ran a eighth place time of 5:11.43 just barley breaking her previous record of 5:12.81 which was set back in 2020.
The shot put concluded later in the morning where three NM State throwers competed.
Rebecca Green had the top distance among the three – she set a new personal record with a mark of 15.10m (49' 6.5") placing sixth in the event. Freshman thrower,
Alesha Lane had the next best Aggie time with a 13.47m (44' 2.5") mark finishing eleventh.
Makiya Moore was the other Aggie to compete, she finished with a 12.46 (40" 10.5") throw.
Victoria Veserra was the lone Aggies to compete in the long jump. She finished just short of her personal best (5.28M) after jumping a distance of 5.20 (17' 0.75").
Three Aggies took the line for the 60m dash.
Sierra Brewer was the only Aggies to qualify for the semifinals after finishing in the top 16 of runner with a 7.67 performance.
Jhana Downie competed in the event for the first time in her career coming out with a 7.72 finish.
Grace Pendarvis followed her with a time of 7.73.
When it came time for the 60m hurdles, the Aggies put on quite the performance with four runners qualifying for the semifinals, and two qualifying for finals.
Aliyah Logan took the top spot in the prelims with an event best time of 8.53.
T'Erica Boyd was the next Aggie to advance with a 8.39 time which was good for fourth fastest in the round.
Breanna Moss had the ninth fastest time, crossing the line at 9.06.
In the semi's, runners are divided into three heats where the winners of each heat advances to the finals, along with the five next best times.
Aliyah Logan and
Valissa Brown both finished second in their respective heats with equal times of 8.44.
The two later finished one after another in the finals with Logan taking home the bronze after breaking a personal record with a 8.27 mark, and Brown following her in fourth place, also setting a new personal record with a 8.33 time.
Brown continued her day with the triple jump competing alongside freshman jumper
Cameron Hodges. Brown took the fourth overall spot after a jump distance of 11.85 (38'10.5"). Hodges secured a sixth-place finish after a jump of 11.72 (38' 5.5") in her first collegiate meet.
The trio of
Emily Stutesman,
Thobile Amon and Maggies Gibbs combined to take three out of the top five spots in the 3,000m run. Amon's 10:07.87 time was good enough to give her a new personal record for the event taking third. Stutesman finishes second in the field with a time of 10:02.18, Gibbs finished in fourth with a time of 10:18.79.
The final event of the day was the 4x400m relay which featured the quartet of
Terice Steen, Jahyna Hill,
Jhana Downie and
T'Erica Boyd. The team finished with the fourth best overall time after combining for a 3.44.39 relay time.
Up Next
The Aggies are back in action next week when they head up north to Albuquerque for the MLK Collegiate invitational. This will be the first of five straight meets in Albuquerque the Aggies will compete in. Four of the five meets are hosted by the University of New Mexico with the fifth meet being the WAC Indoor championships, which are set to take place Feb. 24
