THE FIRST SERVE
• After splitting its first pair of matches, NM State will embark on its second week of action – beginning with an early week matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the NM State Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
• In their home opener and last time out, the Aggies earned their first win of the season as they swept in-state foe Western New Mexico on Friday, Jan. 20.
• In the commanding win, three doubles teams and seven individuals earned their first win of the season.
• The tandems of
Anna Pinaieva and
Lisa Zhu,
Miranda Bishard and
Bella Nguyen and
Valeriia Ivanovskaia and
Natsuki Nishimura each tallied their first victory of the spring season.
• Meanwhile,
Dora Kurdi joined Bishard, Pinaieva, Zhu, Ivanovskaia, Nguyen and Nishimura in singles action to collect individual wins.
• The Aggies and Islanders last met in 2014 when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi earned a narrow 4-3 win in a neutral site match in Houston, Texas.
SCOUTING THE ISLANDERS
• This will mark the visitor's third match away from home on the season as the Islanders earned a pair of wins over Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 19, in Prairie View, Texas.
• After getting swept in doubles play in the season opener, the Islanders' Emma Aucagne, Naomi Moi McKenzie, Sofia Pinto and Valeria Cherfus bounced back in singles action to earn the 4-1 victory in the first half of the doubleheader.
• Texas A&M-CC was then able to earn a 5-0 win in the second meeting between the Islanders and Panthers.
