LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After closing the 2022 season at the NCAA Corvallis Regional, the NM State baseball program looks to make noise once again in 2023. Head coach
Mike Kirby and the Aggies have announced the 2023 schedule, featuring 48 games, including 26 at Presley Askew Field.
The defending WAC Champions will open the season with a three-game home set against Bellarmine from February 17-19. After hitting the road for the Sugar Land Classic in Sugar Land, Texas (hosted by the Sugar Land Space Cowboys – Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros), the Aggies will return to Presley Askew Field for four games against Benedictine Mesa (February 28) and Pacific (March 3-5).
Also participating in the Sugar Land Classic will be Houston Christian, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Seton Hall, and Northwestern State.
The final season of WAC play for NM State will begin with six straight games on the road. The Aggies will take on Grand Canyon in Phoenix from March 10-12 before heading to St. George, Utah to take on Utah Tech from March 17-19. NM State will make a brief pit stop in Las Cruces to battle Ottawa University Arizona on Tuesday, March 14.
After a trip to Albuquerque on March 21 to take on New Mexico, the Aggies will host their WAC home opener on March 24 against UTRGV. Following the three-game set, the Aggies head to Huntsville, Texas for three games against Sam Houston.
Following the clash with Sam Houston, the Aggies will play eight of their next nine games at Presley Askew Field. The swing kicks off when New Mexico makes the trip down I-25 on April 4 and California Baptist comes to Las Cruces from April 6-8. The Aggies make a trip to Tucson to take on Arizona in a midweek contest before hosting Stephen F. Austin from April 14-16. The lengthy homestand wraps up with a Tuesday night contest against New Mexico on April 18.
The Aggies will make a trip to Stephenville, Texas to battle Tarleton between April 21-23 before returning to New Mexico for their next eight games. Ottawa University Arizona will make its second trip to Presley Askew Field on April 25 before Sacramento State comes to town for three games between April 28-30 for a rematch of the 2022 WAC Tournament semifinal game. The Aggies and Lobos will meet for a fourth time on Tuesday, May 2 in Albuquerque before NM State returns to the City of Crosses to take on Seattle U (May 5-7).
To wrap up the regular season, the Aggies will go on a road trip through Utah. NM State will go to Salt Lake City to battle Pac-12 foe Utah on Wednesday, May 10 before a three-game set with Utah Tech (May 12-14) to finish out the 48-game schedule.
Once again, the WAC Baseball Tournament will take place at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona from May 24-27. Last season, the Aggies went 4-0 through the WAC Tournament, taking down Sam Houston, UTRGV, Sacramento State, and Abilene Christian along the way.
