Aggies Head to College Station for Arturo Barrios Invitational

Last regular season meet for NM State ahead of the CUSA Cross Country Championships

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Since kicking off the 2023 cross country season with a strong performance at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open on Sept. 2, NM State has hit the ground running, competing in a trio of meets during the month of September including the Texas Texh Open (Sept. 15) and Dave Murray Invitational (Sept. 29). On Friday, Oct. 13, the Aggies will suit up for the first time in October at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at the Watts Cross Country Course.
 
Friday marks the final cross country meet of the regular season for the Aggies, with two weeks to prepare for the CUSA Cross Country Championships, set for Oct. 28th from Bowling Green, Kentucky, running at the Riverview Golf Course at Hobson Grove Park. This will be NM State's first conference meet as members of CUSA, joined by other first-time participants Jax State, Liberty and Sam Houston.
 
The meet will begin with the men's 8k, starting at 7:30 a.m. MT while the women's 6k will follow at approximately 8:15 a.m. MT. Fans can follow along with the results thanks to flashresults.
 
By far the largest meet NM State has competed at this season, a total of 42 teams will travel to College Station. Along with the Aggies other notable names set to run include host Texas A&M, Houston, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Rice, Texas Tech and UTEP, along with future CUSA member Kennesaw State. The Crimson & White will be represented by 21 student-athletes, with ten men and eleven women making the trip east.

  • Thomas Croshaw worked his way up the field throughout the race, crossing the line with a time of 24:45.2 to finish 13th, best among NM State entrants.
  • Solidifying himself as a strong performer for the Crimson & White, Anekin Hetman crossed the line second for NM State, finishing 22nd with a time of 25:34.6. This is a season-best time for Hetman in the 8k after posting a time of 26:55.7 at the Texas Tech Open.
  • For the second time this season Maggie Gibbs crossed the line first among Crimson & White student-athletes in the women's 6k, posting a time of 20:52.4 to take sixth place.
  • Emily Stutesman recorded a time of 21:32.0 to finish 13th and second-best on the team, while twins Thobile Amon and Thulisile Amon finished 16th and 17th, posting times of 21:49.5 and 21:49.7 respectively

  • Anekin Hetman recorded a time of 24:45.57 to post the best finish for the Aggie men, taking 44th.
  • Nick Allred set a personal best time of 26:51.5 in the 8k, besting that mark at the Dave Murray Invitational this season, crossing the line with a time of 25:55.1.
  • Emily Stutesman took the top spot for the NM State women, finishing 33rd with a time of 21:24.7, followed by Thobile Amon (21:35.8) and Maggie Gibbs (21:40.6).
