IOWA CITY, Iowa – The NM State swim team got things underway at the Hawkeye Invitational on Thursday morning as they competed in five events on the first of three days at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center.

The Aggies finished the day with several individuals turning in impressive performances to get started on the right foot.
Naomi Slee,
Lindsay Puhalski and
Emily Dobbins each posted times that ranked among the top eight in their respective events to score points for the Aggies.

Slee became the first Aggie to break the five-minute marke in the 500-yard freestyle as her time of 4:50.64 allowed her to claim the Aggies' first podium finish – securing bronze placement. Meanwhile,
Lindsay Puhalski topped her previous season-best in the 200 IM as she reached the wall at the 2:03.28 mark to claim seventh place.
Emily Dobbins then followed Puhalski's swim with a sixth-place finish in the 50 free among a field of nearly 50 competitors. Dobbins' time of 23.31 was also the fastest by any Aggie this season.

NM State will return to the pool on Friday morning as they get set to compete in the 200 medley relay, 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and the 800 free relay. Friday's prelims will begin at 9 a.m. MT with finals beginning at approximately 4 p.m. MT.
