Day One of the NM Collegiate Classic is Complete

Three Aggies finish inside the top five of the 3,000m run

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic has concluded and there were a number of impressive performances from both Aggies runners and throwers putting them in a good spot heading into day two.  
 
The Day started with the women's long jump which saw three Aggies participate. Valissa Brown finished with the best Aggie mark recording a jump of 5.71m (18' 8.75") placing inside the top 20. Victoria Veserra was the next Aggie to place in the event, finishing with an official distance of 5.06m (16' 7.25"). After Veserra was Aggies newcomer Angelina Killings who concluded the event with a jump distance of 4.77m (15' 7.57").
 
The next event to take place was the women's weight throw. Makiya Moore was the top Aggie to finish in the event placing 15th with a mark of 16.52m (54' 2.0"). Emily Birch ended the event two spots behind Moore after recording a throw distance of 16.38m (53' 9.0"). Kaelyn Fenstermacher competed in the event for just the fourth time in her career and recorded a toss of 13.87m (45' 6.0") – the second-best throw of her career. Freshman Alesha Lane also competed in the event, recording a mark of 13.24m (43' 5.0").
 
Aileen Alvarado was the lone Aggie to compete in the women's high jump finishing the event with a 1.51m (4' 11.5") jump.
 
The 3,000m run was the highlight of the Aggies' day with three Aggies placing in the top five of the event. Maggie Gibbs brought home the silver, placing second with a personal best time of 9:58.96. Thobile Amon finished right behind Gibbs in third place, also setting a personal best after crossing the finish line at 10:03.18 mark. Emily Stutesman was the third Aggie to finish inside the top five with a 10:14.58 time, placing fifth overall – the third straight meet where she had finished an event inside the top five. Kayla O'Connell placed seventh in the race also set a new personal best in the event with an official time of 10:39.88. Leah Clark (11:19.68) and Jordan Torres (11:33.48) also competed in the event taking 15th and 16th in the race.
 
Takiyah Johnson was the only Aggie to compete in the women's 400m dash (unseeded) finishing with a time of 1:01.42.
 
Seven Aggies took the line for the women's 200m dash (unseeded). Sierra Brewer (24.43), Grace Pendarvis (24.68), Terice Steen (25.06), T'Erica Boyd (25.38), Jahnya Hill (25.68), Breanna Moss (25.88) and Takiyah Johnson (26.65) were the seven runners who participated in the event. Terice Steen set a new personal best in the event, placing inside the top 50.

The NM Collegiate Classic will resume tomorrow for day two where the Aggies are slated to compete in eight more events starting with the 60m hurdle qualifying round 9:30 a.m. and concluding with the 4x400 relay at 3:30 p.m.
