ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference recently announced its winners for the Men's and Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week Awards, and
Jhana Downie was listed as this week's Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
The third-year sprinter out of Sunrise, Florida, recently set a personal record in the 400m dash with her 52.93-second performance and first place finish at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson over the weekend. This mark was good for the sixth-fastest recorded 400m dash time in the country this week and currently sits as the seventh fastest 400m time in the nation this season.
Additionally, Downie cemented herself in the NM State record books, recording the third fastest 400m time in school history - behind
Katara Nelson (51.98) and LaSasha Aldredge (52.59). Downie's previous record in the event stood at 54.77, obtained at last season's Aztec Invitational, when she finished in third place.
Aside from running in the 400m dash, Downie also competed in the 200m dash, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay. In the 200m dash, Downie recorded an outdoor best time with a 23.76-second finish – good for second place – two-tenths of a second from her personal best mark (23.56).
In the 4x400, Downie, along with
