LAHAINA, Hawai'i – Against a field full of nine teams within Golfstat's Top 100 rankings, the NM State women's golf team held its own and finished seventh at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. Throughout the three-day event, the Aggies show 872 (+8) as a team, just three shots behind BYU.
"Wasn't the ending we wanted today, but today was good for us. Our distance control with irons and short wedges just wasn't anywhere close to what it needed to be to be able to score well. We were exposed and have to learn from it,"
Danny Bowen, head coach of the Aggies remarked. "We're just so up and down right now. This is three tournaments in a row that we've struggled to get consistent scores from the entire lineup. We need someone to step up and provide some help in the 5th spot."
Bowen continued, "Overall, this was still a good event and move in the right direction for us because we continue to show what we're capable of in short spurts."
With a pair of late birdies,
Emma Bunch climbed into a tie for eleventh place, shooting 214 (-2) over the three-day event.
Alison Gastelum finished just one shot behind Bunch in a tie for thirteenth.
Much like Gastelum and Bunch,
Valentina Origel and
Kaylee Chen were grouped together on the leaderboard. Tying for thirty fifth, Origel shot 221 (+5) in Hawaii to finish just one shot above Chen.
