LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State traveled north to the campus of Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas for a Friday morning meet, the Texas Tech Open. 14 Aggie student-athletes made the trip – eight on the men's team and six on the women's side. Anekin Hetman and Jordan Torres led the men's and women's side respectively, with the men taking 8th place and the women finishing in sixth.

Competing first, the men put together a solid performance, finishing eighth among 16 teams with 259 points. Last time out, Anekin Hetman finished third among Crimson & White student-athletes, but today he paced NM State, leading the pack to finish 34th with a time of 26:55.70.

Collins Yego finished second among the Aggies competing in Lubbock, crossing the line with a time of 27:15.70 to take 46th. Freshman Derick Castellanos competed in the 8k for the first time at NM State, recording a time of 27:49.40 to record a 58th place finish.

Jordan Torres kicked off the 2023 season with a ninth-place finish at the Lori Fitzgerald, and continued her season's hot start, leading the way for the Aggies with a time of 23:51.30 to finish 14th among 128 entrants. This time also represents a personal best in the 6k for the sophomore from El Paso. Last season, Torres finished 41st at this meet with a time of 24:41.70.

Angela Korte represented the second NM State student-athlete to cross the finish line, shattering her previous best in the 6k by nearly two minutes, posting a time of 24:42.50 to take 23rd – improving on her 70th place finish at last year's Texas Tech Open.

Along with Mari Gallegos (36th, 25:02.00), Freshman Nia Allison (40th, 25:06.50) and Murrie Dodge (46th, 25:26.50) competed in their first 6k's for the Crimson & White.
