ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Taking their talents up north for the second meet of the 2025 season, NM State recorded a solid day at the Lobo Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico at the UNM North Golf Course.
Andrew Gibby led the way for the Crimson & White, tallying the individual championship in the men's 5k with a time of 15:11.62. Overall, the men finished second as a team behind UTEP.
The women's 5K began the day in the Duke City, which saw a select group of Aggie student-athletes make the trip. Running unattached, New Mexico's Christina Nisoli took the top time with a mark of 17:31.49. Similarly, an unattached
Khloi Bird took the top time for NM State, posting a result of 18:37.32.
Recently joining the team, freshman student-athletes
Abigail Beam (Rio Rancho, N.M.; Rio Rancho HS) and
Brooke Kelly (Albuquerque, N.M.; St. Pius X HS) made a return trip to Albuquerque, competing in front of friends and family. The duo finished 11
th and 12
th respectively, posting new personal best times of 19:15.17 and 19:20.73.
A much larger group of men's cross country runners competed on Saturday, with junior
Andrew Gibby securing his first collegiate individual championship, crossing the line with a time of 15:11.62. This became a season-best time for the Chandler, Ariz., native, recording a mark of 15:11.8 at the NM State-hosted Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open two weeks ago.
Orion Chavez (15:27.72) notched a fifth-place finish, while
Derick Castellanos finished eighth with a new personal best time of 15:41.13.
Leo Valenzuela (ninth, 15:44.12) rounded out the Aggies in the top ten.
Sophomore
Angel Maese (16:12.12) and senior
Nick Allred (16:17.76) finished 14
th and 15
th respectively, with
Gabriel Uranga just behind in 18
th with a time of 16:22.79.
Jonah Archer (16:28.23),
Kobe Rodriguez (16:35.37, NM State debut), and
Quenton Metz (17:15.01) closed out the morning in Albuquerque for the Crimson & White.
