LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State began its season on its home courts as they welcomed UTEP, Western New Mexico and Abilene Christian for the Aggie Invitational on Friday morning.
 
The day began with a slew of doubles matches, including three which featured Aggie competitors. Whitney Moon teamed up with Anna Pinaieva to begin her career as an Aggie and did so with a positive result – defeating Abilene Christian's Masha Vrsalovic and Hebe Toyos, 9-8 (7-2).
 
Like Moon, Varvara Nikolaeva suited up for the first time as an Aggie and began her career with a win as she and Dora Kurdi defeated ACU's Maryjoe Crisologo and Maria Cascos by a score of 8-3.
 
Later in singles action, Anna Pinaieva flexed her muscles as she earned a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Western New Mexico's Dora Kos in the top draw to begin her fall singles season.
 
After suffering a defeat in doubles play, Natsuki Nishimura bounced back nicely in singles action as she earned a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over WNMU's Kajsa Gedlitschka.
 
Over in the Black Draw, Valeriia Ivanovskaia collected the first win of her fall season as she bested WNMU's Andreea Arnautu, 7-5, 6-3. Dora Kurdi also found success in the same draw as she tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win over Emma Jewell of UTEP.
