NM State Closes Out Aggie Invite

Aggies return to action on Friday, Sept. 29.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State wrapped up its only home tournament of the fall season as it competed on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center.
 
In doubles action, the duo of Dora Kurdi and Varvara Nikolaeva put together an impressive 8-4 win over Abilene Christian's Eva Arranz and Andrea Guerrero. Meanwhile, Anna Pinaieva and Whitney Moon also earned a doubles win – defeating Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska of UTEP.
 
The NM State team was busy in singles action – competing in seven total matches. The Aggies were led by a trio of returners as Anna Pinaieva, Lisa Zhu and Natsuki Nishimura as all three Aggies picked up wins over their counterparts.
 
Pinaieva defeated Abilene Christian's Maria Cascos by a dominant score of 6-3, 6-1. Meanwhile, Lisa Zhu need a third set to take down UTEP's Carlotta Macaglia. Similarly, Natsuki Nishimura went three sets with UTEP's Elena Dibattista before she emerged victorius.

11 a.m. – Anna Pinaieva def. Maria Cascos (ACU), 6-3, 6-1
11 a.m. – Lisa Zhu def. Carlotta Mencaglia (UTEP), 6-1, 5-7, 10-7
11 a.m. – Hanna Telzynska (UTEP) def. Whitney Moon, 6-3, 6-4
11 a.m. – Natsuki Nishimura def. Elena Dibattista (UTEP), 7-5, 2-6, 6-2
11 a.m. – Hebe Toyos (ACU) def. Varvara Nikolaeva, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2
11 a.m. – Olivia Sears (ACU) def. Valeriia Ivanovskaia, 6-3, 6-3
 
UP NEXT
After a weekend off, the Aggies will travel to Abilene, Texas, where they will take part in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by former WAC foe Abilene Christian. The Aggies' next tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 29, and will wrap up on Sunday, Oct. 1.
