DALLAS – Following a dominant weekend as a team, one Aggie individual has received further recognition as
Mira Tinani has been named the WAC Diver of the Week following a pair of podium finishes.
The award highlights an exceptional freshman season for Tinani who has been the Aggies' leader on the boards many times this year. Last weekend, Tinani logged a second-place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 262.95 while also placing third in 1-meter event after posting a score of 254.18 as the Aggies defeated New Mexico 198-93.
This marks the first weekly award for the Aggies this season and the first since
Aimee Burton was named WAC Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 11, 2023. Tinani also becomes the first diver to claim the award since
Italia Aranzabal garnered the honor on Feb. 1, 2022.
Including Saturday's performance, Tinani has accumulated 12 podium finishes across just eight competitions. This includes four first-place finishes in her debut season.
Tinani and the Aggie divers will return to action this weekend as they travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., to compete in the NAU Diving Invitational hosted by WAC rival Northern Arizona. Following the dive-only event, Tinani and the entire NM State team will prepare for the WAC Championships set to take place in Pharr, Texas, from Feb. 28 to March 2.
