Lindsay Puhalski Leads Aggies on Third Day of WAC Championships

| By:

Lindsay Puhalski crowned WAC Champion in 400 IM as Aggies remain in second place.

PHARR, Texas – Following a stellar start to the week, the Aggies kept things rolling on the third day of the WAC Championships as they tallied three more medals, highlighted by the Aggies' first individual title at the conference meet since 2021. With the continued success, the Aggies remain in second place after accruing 378 points through three days.

The day began with a bang as Lindsay Puhalski, who entered the 400 IM finals as the top qualifier, raced her way to a gold medal finish. With a time of 4:14.32, Puhalski eclipsed a program record that stood since the 2010-11 campaign while also notching an NCAA B cut time. This marks the second school record of the week for Puhalski and the first gold medal placement for the Aggies since Maude Boily-Dufour won the 100 back three years ago.

NM State also earned points in the ensuing event as both Faye McDonagh and Ellen Osthelder earned spots in the B final for the 100 butterfly. Ultimately, McDonagh placed second in the heat for a top-ten overall finishing – posting a time of 55.79 while Osthelder finished 14th with a time of 56.40.

Later, a pair of teammates who push each other in practice every day were neck-and-neck at the finish line following the 200 free race. For Katie Rink and Naomi Slee, this was good for a bronze medal finish and a pair of personal bests as they clocked in at 1:49.10.

The 100 breaststroke also resulted in points for the Crimson and White as Kodi Wiman won the B final with a time of 1:02.98 while Foteini Charitou's time of 1:03.44 was good for 12th overall. Meanwhile, two Aggies reached the A final in the 100 back as Emily Dobbins logged a sixth-place finish (55.31) and Thea Masselink clinched eighth (55.88).
