ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Friday, the Aggies opened their season at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship course alongside 16 other talented Division I programs. After 36 holes, NM State sits in 12th place after combining to finish the day 8-over par (584).
After sitting out the 2023-24 season,
Aidan Thomas made his return to play on Friday and did so in impressive fashion. The opening day of action was was highlighted by a first-round 66 (-6) from Thomas which equaled the low round by anyone in the 96-man field. This propelled the Albuquerque native to enter the second round with a share of the lead. Later, Thomas would post a 73 (+1) to remain in contention with just 18 holes to play on Saturday. Thomas currently sits in a tie for third place and is six shots off leader Carson Herron of New Mexico.
The Aggies also received strong contributions from returner
Javier Delgadillo who ended the second round in a tie for 29
th after finishing the day with a combined score of 145 (+2). Meanwhile, Lance Christensen and Mateo Payan both were tied for 73
rd through 36 holes after finishing the day at 150 (+6).
Alexandre Bauduin rounded out the Aggie lineup in a tie for 91
st.
NM State will return to action on Saturday morning for the final round of its season-opening tournament. The Aggies will open the round on hole 11 at 7:45 am. MT.
