NM State Hosts Western Kentucky

The Aggies are set to welcome Western Kentucky in first home Conference USA Match.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State will host Conference USA Foe Western Kentucky on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. MT at the Soccer Athletic Complex. This will be the Aggies first home CUSA match of the 2024 season.

2023 CUSA Play
In their Conference USA season debut, the Aggies held a record of 6-0-2, the only team to go undefeated in the conference on their way to a regular season title. The Aggies went 2-0-2 at home against Conference USA opponents in 2023.
 
In 2023, the Aggies ranked fourth in GAA with a 1.47. They also ranked third in Saves with 78 for an average of 4.11. Among the conference NM State recorded the most fouls in 2023.
 
Aggie Accolades
The Aggies have won five total Conference USA Weekly Awards this season. They have tallied 10 CUSA Weekly Awards in their first two seasons with the conference. The Aggies won two Player of the Week awards on Sept. 17th, they have reached this feat on just on other occasion in Oct. 30 where both Meredith Scott and Guha won in the same week.  
 
Record Watch
2023 Conference USA Player of the Year Loma McNeese has 23 career goals, and she is just three goals short of tying the program record. Along with this, she is also tied for first in-game winnings goals (7), in second place in points (59), just two points away from taking the program record, tied for second in PK goals (2) and tied for second in multi-goal games (2).
 
 
Valerie Guha sits in second place in shutouts among all Aggie goalkeepers. She is also third in goalkeeper wins (13), third in GAA (1.32) and eighth in saves (83).
 
McNeese Impact
McNeese has made her impact felt this season as she has recorded either a goal or an assist in four of the last six games the Aggies have played. In the past three games, McNeese has recorded two goals and one assist.
 
History
NM State and Western Kentucky have played each other in just one match. This match happened last year on Oct. 27, with NM State securing a 1-0 victory and clinching the CUSA regular season title.
 
In that game, Meredith Scott scored her first career goal. In this game, Guha recorded nine total saves in the game to hold Western Kentucky to zero goals – one of eight shutouts posted by the Friedburg, Germany native.
 
Scouting the Hilltoppers
The Hilltoppers are 2-5-1 on the season with wins over Division II Union University and Evansville. In their first Conference USA match the Hilltoppers tied LA Tech 0-0. The Hilltoppers have recorded 11 goals on the season while allowing 18.
 
Kayla Meyer currently leads Western Kentucky in goals (5), points (10), shots (23) and shots on goal (12). Maddie Davis has been the Hilltoppers top keeper as she has racked up 30 saves and two shutouts.
