LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Despite controlling the pace, NM State fell 2-1 to LA Tech on Senior night at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex. The Aggies produced their highest shot total of the season and outshot the Bulldogs by 14 but couldn't convert late opportunities in a tough conference matchup.
The Crimson and White struck first in the 39th minute when
Amaya Simoni-Walters found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, putting her in a tie with
Meredith Scott and
Ariana Leamons for the team lead in goals. The Aggies maintained pressure throughout the half, forcing six saves from the LA Tech keeper while limiting the visitors to just three shots before halftime.
The Bulldogs responded in the second half, equalizing in the 71st minute before netting the go-ahead goal just four minutes later. Despite the setback, NM State stayed on the attack, earning four corners and testing the defense with several shots in the closing minutes.
With the end of their home schedule, the Aggies will continue conference play on the road for the remainder of the season. NM State still looks to push for a spot in the CUSA Championships as they take on MTSU this Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. MT.
