LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State opened the Aggie Invite with an impressive day of play at the NM State Tennis Center on Friday, collecting several victories in both singles and doubles action to set the tone for the weekend.
The Aggies showed depth and dominance across the board, highlighted by a clean sweep in doubles play that featured multiple two-win performances.
In doubles, the duo of Anna Pinaieva and Whitney Moon put together two strong showings, taking down Niangadou and L'allier (UNM) 6-2 before defeating Rene and Felixova (Lubbock Christian) 6-4. Montana Parkinson-Lubold and Anna Kilmova also claimed a pair of victories, edging Quinn and Melnikova (Angelo State) 7-5 and later cruising past Herath and Jacquemin (Lubbock Christian) 6-1.
Meanwhile, Nadia Nemeth and Dora Kurdi impressed in their doubles debut, winning both of their matches by defeating Raggiotti and Bestagno (Angelo State) 6-0 and Vandeputte and Tsai (UNM) 6-3. Rounding out the group, Emma Patton and Mariella Gelbke bounced back from a narrow 6-4 loss to Glasgow and Rashid (UTPB) by responding with a 6-3 win over Luders and Quick (Lubbock Christian) to finish their day on a high note.
The Aggies also delivered in singles competition, with six NM State players earning victories to cap off a dominant first day. Anna Pinaieva opened her tournament with a strong 7-6(5), 6-1 win over Andrea De Bernardo (Lubbock Christian), while Montana Parkinson-Lubold defeated Anna Wache (Angelo State) 6-1, 6-2. Anna Kilmova continued her success with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win over Sarah L'allier (UNM).
Mariella Gelbke and Emma Patton each added singles victories, with Gelbke rolling past Gabriela Franco (Lubbock Christian) 6-0, 6-1, and Patton defeating Aitana Moreno Villa (Lubbock Christian) 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. Whitney Moon and Nadia Nemeth both competed well in their matches but came up short, with Moon falling to Margaux Rene (Angelo State) 6-1, 6-4 and Nemeth dropping a close one to Sasa Felixova (Angelo State) 7-5, 6-3.
The Aggies will return to action on Saturday morning as they continue play in the Aggie Invite at the NM State Tennis Center.
