PROVO, Utah – NM State women's tennis opened competition at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships on Tuesday, turning in a strong day of results in both singles and doubles play. 

Leading the way for the Aggies was Montana Parkinson-Lubold, who advanced through qualifying with a pair of impressive victories to earn a spot in the main draw. Parkinson-Lubold began her day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Utah State's Olivia Halvorsen before cruising past Utah's Andjelija Markovic 6-2, 6-2 in the next round. With the two victories, Parkinson-Lubold secures her place in the main draw, where she will take on Boise State's Carla Grignac in first-round action. 

The Aggies will also be represented in the main draw by Anna Pinaieva, who received an automatic berth. Pinaieva will open her tournament against Boise State's Tereza Polakova on Wednesday, Oct. 8. 

Elsewhere in singles, Whitney Moon earned a straight-set victory over Denver's Yunfei Cai (6-3, 6-3) before narrowly falling to UNLV's Adi Bitton in a hard-fought three-set battle, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Emma Petton was also in action, dropping a close three-set contest to Wyoming's Serina Abriola, 6-3, 5-7, 6-7. 

In doubles play, Moon and Pinaieva teamed up to post an 8-5 win over Air Force's Shivaani Selvan and Alba Martinez to move on to the next round, where they will meet Colorado's Yukiko Ikedo and Madeline Brotman. Meanwhile, Parkinson-Lubold and Petton fell to the BYU tandem of Kailey Lewis and Mayar Mohamed by a score of 8-2.
