Aggies Fall in First Game of Big Easy Classic

NM State will return to the Alario Center on Friday, November 28.

WESTWEGO, LA. – Following a matchup in San Diego to begin the week, NM State (1-4) traveled east to the Pelican State to take part in the Big Easy Classic. In the first of two contests from the Alario Center, the Aggies fell to the College of Charleston (6-0) by a score of 72-42.

Coming off a career-best 20-point performance, Imani Warren opened the scoring from the Alario Center, notching the first three points for the Aggies. Later in the first, freshman Senoj Jones would tally back-to-back buckets, giving her four points in just over four minutes of play. An 8-0 run by the College of Charleston would give them a 22-9 advantage at the end of the first.

Lucía Yenes led the charge on the scoring front for the Crimson & White in the second quarter, putting in the first six points of the stanza while Keira Hudson connected on her first 3-pointer of the season and the lone NM State triple in the opening half. At the break, the Aggies would trail 41-18.

A pair of junior post players and first-year Aggies led the way in the second half, as Morane Dossou pulled in 11 of her game-high 14 rebounds, while Iyana Beh matched her NM State best with six points, all in the second half.

A 10-2 run in the middle of the fourth represented the best scoring run of the game for the Aggies, including first-year Aggie Nikki Stanic's first points in the Crimson & White. As the final buzzer sounded, NM State would fall by a final score of 72-42. This becomes the lowest point total in a game for the Crimson & White this season.

NUMBERS OF NOTE
  • Morane Dossou hauled in 14 rebounds in a season-high 24 minutes, the most by an Aggie in a game this season. She would also record three points, her first points as a member of NM State.
  • As a team NM State grabbed 43 rebounds, pulling even with a Cougars team that averaged over 49 caroms per contest heading into Thursday's game. This becomes the most boards for the Aggies against a Division I opponent this season (44 against New Mexico Highlands).
  • Keira Hudson and Nikki Stanic buried their first 3-pointers of the season, with Stanic's becoming her first points in the Crimson & White while tallying a season-best 12 minutes of action.
  • For the first time this season, NM State failed to record a block – the Aggies had previously out-blocked opponents in three of its first four contests.
  • After swiping a career-best and NM State best four steals on Monday, freshman DeAvion Wilson tallied a new career high in assists with four.
  • All 13 Aggies appeared in Thursday's contest, a first in the 2025-26 campaign.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Jody Adams, on the matchup with the College of Charleston: "I thought we had some gains in the rebounding area, competing well on the glass with a top rebounding team in the country. I thought Mo[rane Dossou] stood out in her '20 square feet' for this program, and Dee [DeAvion Wilson] was a spark coming off the bench and doing the same.

We are still trying to find a group that is consistent."

The Aggies return to action for their second and final game in the Big Easy Classic on Friday, Nov. 28, to take on Fresno State of the Mountain West Conference. Tip-off is set for 1:30 MT with the game streaming live on YouTube and live stats available at nmstatesports.com/stats.
