FORT COLLINS, Colo. – NM State continued its strong showing at the John Messick Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by a pair of Aggies punching their tickets to the finals of their respective draws.
Sophomore Montana Parkinson-Lubold rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wyoming's Madlena Orlova to advance to the championship match of Draw D. Meanwhile, senior Nadia Nemeth secured her spot in the Draw E final, grinding out a three-set win over UIC's Anika Paul, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.
Transfer Emma Petton also continued her winning ways, cruising past Utah's Hayley Roberts in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Elsewhere in singles play, Whitney Moon fell to Air Force's Chaeyole Kang (6-2, 6-0), while freshman Mariella Gelbke came up short against Colorado State's Hanna Haber (6-4, 6-2).
The Aggies will close out the tournament on Sunday, with Parkinson-Lubold and Nemeth set to compete for individual titles in their draws.
