LONG BEACH, Calif. — NM State (1-9-0) wrapped up its non-conference slate on Sunday with a 2-1 setback at Long Beach State in front of 673 fans at George Allen Field. The match, which served as the Beach's senior recognition day, saw the Aggies battle throughout with the efforts highlighted by a goal from
Mya Gonzales.
After Long Beach State struck early in the third minute, the Aggies answered back midway through the first half. Gonzales delivered the equalizer in the 33rd minute, chipping a shot over the keeper off a setup from
Amaya Simoni-Walters to pull NM State level at 1-1. The Beach, however, reclaimed the lead less than three minutes into the second half with a curling shot from Natelle El Mokbel that proved to be the match-winner.
Goalkeeper
Valerie Guha once again stood tall for the Crimson and White, recording five saves to finish with one more stop than her counterpart. The Aggies managed six total shots and forced four saves while generating a pair of first-half corners. With the conclusion of non-conference play, NM State now turns its attention to Conference USA action as league play begins next week.
The Aggies will begin their conference season when they host Sam Houston next Saturday at the NM State Athletic Complex at 7 p.m. MT.
