ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — NM State dropped a 4-1 decision to New Mexico on Friday afternoon at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium in the Battle of I-25. The Aggies competed closely throughout the contest, highlighted by a strong singles victory and multiple unfinished matches that remained tightly contested when play was halted.

The Lobos secured the early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The Aggies were locked in a competitive battle at the No. 3 position, where Dora Kurdi and Whitney Moon were tied 5-5 when the doubles point was clinched.

NM State found its biggest success in singles play at the No. 4 position, where Montana Parkinson-Lubold delivered an impressive straight-set victory. After edging the opening set 7-5, she took control in the second to earn a 6-1 win and put the Aggies on the scoreboard.

Other Aggies showed strong fight despite the final result. Anna Pinaieva captured the first set at the top singles spot and was in a third-set battle when the match was left unfinished. Emma Petton also bounced back after a tight opening-set tiebreak loss to dominate the second set 6-0 before her match was halted.

New Mexico ultimately clinched the team victory with wins on courts six, three and two. Whitney Moon opened her match with a dominant 6-1 first set before the Lobos' Vianca Corley rallied to take the final two sets, while Dora Kurdi battled at No. 3 before falling in straight sets.
