Aggies’ Early Offense Not Enough at TCU

Solorzano and Rulli combine for three home runs and six RBIs.

FORT WORTH, Texas – NM State jumped out to a fast start on Tuesday at Lupton Stadium, but TCU managed to push across runs in every inning to hand the Aggies a 16-6 loss.

After the Horned Frogs opened with a single run in the first, the Aggies exploded for five runs in the second – beginning with Easton Rulli's leadoff homer and capped by Steve Solorzano's grand slam to left‑center that gave the Aggies a four-run advantage. Rulli struck again in the third with his second solo home run of the day, giving NM State a brief 6-4 lead.

However, TCU countered as the Frogs plated three in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth before taking full control.

A six‑run sixth inning put the game out of reach as TCU capitalized on four walks to start the inning. NM State could not add to its early production, going scoreless over the final four frames.

Rulli finished 3‑for‑4 with two home runs and Solorzano added the grand slam to lead the Aggie offense. Boston Vest, Aidan Lombardi, Bryce Campbell, and Brandon Clizbe each added hits as NM State fell to 9-11 on the season.

NOTABLES
  • Steve Solorzano's grand slam marked the first grand slam of the season for the Aggies. This also served as the first grand slam of his impressive collegiate career. This was also the first Aggie grand slam since April 20, 2024.
  • With a pair of home runs, Easton Rulli joined Jonatan Clough to serve as the only two Aggies with multiple home runs in a single game this season.
  • With three combined home runs from Solorzano and Rulli, Tuesday matched the most home runs in a single game this season – equaling the team's efforts against Southwest on March 10.
  • NM State fell to 1-10 when scoring fewer than seven runs this season. On the contrary, the Aggies are 8-1 when reaching the seven-run mark.
  • Dylan Weekly tossed 2.0 innings and allowed no earned runs to serve as the fourth time in his five appearances that he has not allowed any earned runs. Tuesday's outing reduced his team-best ERA to 0.71.

UP NEXT
