LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State generated late offense on Saturday evening at Nick Denes Field, but Western Kentucky used a couple of big innings early to hand the Aggies a setback in Conference USA play. With the loss, the Aggies fall to 14-19 overall and 6-8 in league action.
WKU struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly to take an early lead. The Hilltoppers followed with a decisive third inning, stringing together hits and extra‑base damage to extend their advantage to 7-0.
NM State eventually responded in the sixth.
Camden Kaufman doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on
Aidan Taclas' RBI groundout to put the Aggies on the board. The Aggies continued to chip away later, manufacturing runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
In the seventh,
Chris Daniels tallied a single, and
Dane Woodcook drove him in with an RBI base hit to right field. NM State kept pressing in the late innings, adding a pair of runs in the ninth behind extra‑base hits from Woodcook and run‑producing contact from Kaufman and
Steve Solorzano, but WKU maintained separation.
Solorzano finished with multiple hits and an RBI, while Kaufman recorded an extra‑base hit and drove in one run. Meanwhile, both Woodcook and
Jonatan Clough added a pair of hits and double each.
