HONOLULU – Marking the second in a current three-game road stretch, NM State opened action at the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi, playing the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine for the first time since the 2011 season. A scoreless first half gave way to an eventual 3-0 victory for the home side.
Hawaii tallied the first shot of the contest, going at NM State goalkeeper
Karolanne Lafortune within the first five minutes of play – though the shot went out wide for a goal kick. Later in the first half, Lafortune would record her first save, denying Anuhea Aluli of Hawaii and keeping the contest scoreless.
The Aggies tallied their first shots of the night in the 34
th minute, as both
Esme Arenas and
Zoey Gist attacked the net, though both would fall off target. At halftime, NM State and Hawaii had played to a 0-0 draw. Through the first 45 minutes, the Aggies led in saves (3-0), while trailing in shots (6-2) and corner kicks (1-0).
Despite a trio of saves in the opening half, a ball by the Rainbow Wahine found the back of the net in the 47
th minute, putting the Aggies in a 1-0 deficit. Following a handball called against Hawaii, NM State applied some offensive pressure, as Arenas would charge the goal but get her shot blocked, leading to a Crimson & White corner kick. However, goalkeeper Kennedy Justin would not see a ball on goal during the possession.
Goals in the final minutes of action saw the Aggies fall by a final score of 3-0.
Sophomore
Esme Arenas finished with two shots against Hawaii – her third game with at least two shots this season.
Kennedy Herrera continued her streak of 90-minute performances against Hawaii, tallying her fifth full match in the Aggies' first six contests this season. Fellow backline members
Gabi Hislop and
Marlee Cavitt recorded their fourth consecutive full-play matches, while defender
Yuliana Negrete tallied her second in a row, following last week's meeting with USC.

NM State will stay in the Aloha State, returning to action from the University of Hawaii for a neutral-site meeting with Utah Valley in the second and final Crimson & White contest at the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi, on Sunday, Sept. 6.
