Crucial road matches lie ahead for soccer

NM State will complete the rest of its WAC schedule on the road, beginning with Chicago State on Friday.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – With conference play winding down, the NM State women's soccer team will play its remaining three matches of Western Athletic Conference play on the road.

The Aggies are scheduled to face Chicago State on Friday before heading southwest to take on Missouri-Kansas City Sunday. Both matches are slated to begin at noon. Sunday's match versus UMKC will also be available on the WAC Digital Network.

NM State defeated CSU just last week in its final homestand, 5-1. Five different players found the back of the net for the Aggies while Ashley Martin and Rian Nials split time between the posts. NM State currently leads the head-to-head series, 4-0, heading into Friday's contest. The Cougars are also riding a 16-game skid that the Aggies hope to continue.

NM State will get another crack at UMKC on Sunday to wrap up their weekend road trip. The 'Roos came into Las Cruces last weekend and spoiled senior day for the Aggies with a 4-1 win. NM State will get the opportunity to return the favor when the two square off at noon on Sunday.

Audrey Chavez (3 goals), Holly Abdelkader (2g, 2a) and Devin Hart (2g, 2a) have paced the Aggies since the start of WAC play with each player racking up six points. Chavez has converted 30 percent of her shots taken to lead the team in conference play as well.

Abdelkader has a pair of game-winning goals under her belt and is also 1-for-1 in penalty kicks in conference play. Hart also knocked in the other game-winning goal for the Aggies in WAC play.

The final three matches for NM State will be critical with WAC Tournament seeding on the line. The Aggies own a 4-12-0 overall mark and 3-4-0 record in conference action.  They currently sit in sixth behind CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon who are both 3-3-1 in WAC play.
