FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 9 NM State equestrian team won the western portion of the competition as the squad fell 12-5 to No. 3 TCU on Thursday morning. Freshman
Haylee Schoonover collected her first point as an Aggie in the horsemanship competition with a score of 74.0 to earn her first Most Outstanding Player award.
Hallie Padilla and
Morgan Matzdorff also garnered points during the horsemanship portion as they acquired scores of 75.5 and 74.0, respectively. NM State won the horsemanship competition by a score of 3-1.
The Aggies then earned two points in reining to secure a 5-4 victory in the western part of the event. Hayley Newkirk used a score of 69.5 and
Jaimie Story collected a score of 71.0 as both earned points for NM State.
NM State fell 4-0 in equitation on the flat. The team then dropped a 4-0 decision in equitation over fences.
The Aggies will compete again tomorrow and Saturday as they travel to Waco, Texas to participate in the Willis Invitational hosted by Baylor. The tournament will also feature Fresno State and Tennessee-Martin. Competition will begin at 9 am MT.
