LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's soccer team is headed to Orem, Utah, for the first of its two road conference matches of the year.
The Aggies are slated to take on Utah Valley first on Friday at 7 p.m. Mountain time. NM State will then continue towards the northwest to take on the Redhawks of Seattle U. on Sunday with a 1 p.m. Mountain first kick.
NM State enters Friday's tilt against UVU 3-9-0, but rocks a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Aggies suffered their only loss in Western Athletic Conference play against CSU Bakersfield (2-1). However, New Mexico State was able to bookend that loss with 2-1 wins over UT Rio Grande Valley and Grand Canyon.
Freshman
Aileen Galicia leads NM State with five goals to go with her one assist while
Holly Abdelkader and
Audrey Chavez are tied for second at three goals apiece.
Rian Nials and
Ashley Martin have split time in goal for the Aggies, but Nials holds a 2-5 win-loss record compared to Martin's 1-4 mark.
The Wolverines, winners of their last two matches, head into Friday's contest with a 7-4-1 (2-0-1 WAC) record – five of which have come at home. Sheridan Fox paces UVU with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists) while Kasandra Anderson checks in with nine points thanks to her team-high five assists.
Seattle U owns a 6-2-3 overall record and a 1-0-2 mark in WAC play. The Redhawks went 2-2 in their last four matches against "Power 5" conference opponents. SU tallied wins over Vanderbilt (3-1) and Oregon (1-0 2OT), but were defeated by both Washington (3-0) and Washington State (3-1).
Karli White, Summer Mason and Julia Maravec are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece while Maravec leads the team with 14 points (4g, 6a) for SU. In goal, Brianna Smallidge has stopped 52 shots so far and boasts a .839 saves percentage.
