WACO, Texas – The 10th-ranked New Mexico State equestrian team split a pair of competitions as they topped South Dakota State 13-2 but fell to No. 5 Baylor 10-6 on Saturday during the second day of the Willis Invitational.
South Dakota State
The Aggies swept the equitation on the flat event against South Dakota State.
Grace McMurry scored an 82,
Isabel Walton had an 80,
Karianna Knezevich racked up a 75 and
Madison Brayman collected an 84 as each earned a point for the squad. In addition to her point, Brayman was named Most Outstanding Player for that event.
NM State also won equitation over fences. Knezevich and
Samantha Perlman scored an 80 and an 81, respectively, to each earn a point. Perlman was named Most Outstanding Player for equitation over fences.
The Aggies had a strong showing in the two western events as well. In horsemanship,
Quinn Brandt scored a 70,
Morgan Matzdorff had a 69 and
Katlynn Crine had a 69.5 to each garner a point.
The squad swept the reining event as well.
Kimberly Ferrante had a 70.5, Alison Nordvall scored a 64,
Jaimie Story scored a 60.5 and
Kiley Newkirk amassed a 67 to each collect a point. Ferrante also was selected as the event's Most Outstanding Player.
Baylor
NM State had three points in the hunter events against Baylor. In equitation on the flat, Walton had a score of 76. In equitation over fences, Brayman scored an 84, while Knezevich had a score of 78 to each garner a point. In addition, Brayman was selected as Most Outstanding Player in equitation over fences.
The Aggies also garnered two points in horsemanship. Matzdorff amassed a score of 73.5 and Crine had a score of 71.5 to each earn a point. In addition, Story scored a 67 in reining to garner a point for NM State.
The Aggies compete again on October 21 as they travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks.
