Aggies Off to Face Host, San Diego Saturday

The NM State men’s basketball team squares off against tournament host, San Diego, at 3 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, Nov. 26.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State men's basketball team flies west to San Diego, Calif., for a battle with the Toreros of San Diego, the host of the San Diego Classic, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

ENTER THE TOREROS
Tournament host, San Diego, enters the match-up on Friday 2-3 on the year –including a triple-overtime victory against Bethune-Cookman at home. The Toreros opened the year 0-3 with losses against crosstown rival San Diego State, Samford and at UCLA.
 
Olin Carter III are the Torero's leading returning scorer and is averaging 17 points so far this season to go with his 2.8 rebounds per game and 13 assists. Brett Bailey is right behind Carter III with 16.2 points per game and a team-best 6.6 average on the glass while Cameron Neaubauer rounds out the double-digit average scorers for USD. Neaubauer is averaging 10.4 points and 4.4 boards per game for San Diego.
 
Juwan Grey is close to averaging double-figures, checking in with 9.6 points per game and 6.2 rebounds average.
 
SHARPSHOOTING HUGGINS
Junior guard Braxton Huggins is having a great last two games for NM State. The Bakersfield, Calif., product is shooting 66.7-percent from beyond the arc while draining 10 of his last two games. His .667 shooting clip is good for lead in the WAC, but also good for fifth in the nation when comes to 3-point fields made.
 
LAST TIME OUT
After heading into the locker room trailing Nicholls State 44-43 at the half, NM State roared back in the second half and outscored the Colonels 43-30 in the second half. Paced by a pair of 20-point performances from Jemerrio Jones and Braxton Huggins, the NM State men's basketball team breezed to an 86-74 victory in the second half Tuesday night at the Pan American Center.
 
After an exchange of leads to open the second stanza, the Aggies jumped into high-gear on the defensive end which catapulted them to a 59-47 lead after Joe Garza drained a three that forced Nicholls State head coach Richie Riley to call a timeout.
 
UP NEXT
The Aggies return home for its final game in the month of November this upcoming Wednesday, Nov. 30, when they take on Air Force at 7:30 p.m. The halftime show between the Falcons and Aggies will also feature the world-famous Red Panda act.
 
Prior to Wednesday contest, the women's basketball team will look for redemption against New Mexico when the Aggies and Lobos square off at 5:30 p.m. (MT) in the Pan American Center.
