LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State equestrian team squared off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the NM State Equestrian Center on Saturday afternoon to close out their regular season. A tough day of contests saw NM State drop the season finale to the visitors, 10-5.
After senior recognition ceremonies for
Katlynn Crine and
Jaimie Story, as well as community service award presentations, the Aggies set for the day's events against the Cowboys.
The day began with equitation on the flat.
Madison Brayman started the day outscoring her opponent (69-66), to grab the first point of the day for the Aggies. The Cowboys then took the remaining three points to take the first contest, 3-1.
Another MVP award was presented in horsemanship as
Haylee Schoonover brought homme the sole point for the Aggies with a total score of 76. The final event of the day ended 3-1 in favor of the Cowboys as
Kimberly Ferrante earned the final point for the team in reining.
The loss to close out the regular season moves NM State to 5-7 on the year. The Aggies look to regain the momentum they had built after defeating No. 1 Texas A&M earlier in the spring as the team heads to National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship, April 10-12, in Waco, Texas.
