ALBUQUERQUE – The second day of the UNM Halloween Howl on the campus of the University of New Mexico was a challenging for the New Mexico State women's tennis team.
Â
Doubles action in the morning didn't start out the way NM State wanted, dropping all three matches to Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico. The duo of Clara Rizia and
Yadira Rubio went neck-and-neck with UNM's Natasha Munday and Yuelin Chen, but ultimately fell 7-6.
Â
Singles play against Colorado State saw
Harsha Challa taken down the Rams' Stella Cliffe in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 for the lone win against CSU.
Â
In the second singles match of the day, New Mexico State had a little bit more success against Iowa State. Rubio was able to bounce back after dropping the first set to win 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 over Caroline Gibbens. Rizea didn't get much resistance from ISU's Karen Alvarez and captured a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Gavi Kalaga forced a third set after taking the second from the Cyclone's Regina Espindola, but eventually fell 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.
Â
