Aggies set to compete in FIU Holiday Tournament in Miami

 MIAMI – The New Mexico State women's basketball team continues its road trip as it takes part in the Florida International Holiday Tournament in Miami. The Aggies take on South Alabama on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 12 p.m. (MT) before playing either Alcorn State or FIU on Friday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. or 12 p.m.

Scouting South Alabama.
The Jaguars enter the FIU Holiday tournament with a perfect 9-0 record including a 72-67 win at Alabama.
 
South Alabama boasts four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Antoinette Lewis who is averaging close to a double-double at 14.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. She is also shooting a blistering 73.0 percent from the field.
 
Joining Lewis in double figures are Shaforia Kines (13.6), Savannah Jones (12.0) and Damaya Telemaque (11.9).  South Alabama also shoots the ball at prolific rate, its 47.8 field goal percentage is ranked 15th in the nation.
 
A Look at the Braves
Alcorn State heads to Miami with a 1-8 record, having lost its last two games including a 66-47 road loss to Southern Miss and a 78-59 loss at home to Rust College.
 
Three Braves average double figures led by senior guard De'Asia Brown at 11.1 points per game. Todrianna Isler (10.4) and Charisma Walker (10.0) are the other Braves averaging double figure scoring.
 
Scouting FIU
Florida International, the tournament host, heads into the tournament with a 2-8 record, having lost 62-53 to North Florida and 89-62 to Howard leading into this week's matchups.
 
The Panthers have struggled offensively with just one player with more than one game played who averages double figures scoring. TaMiracle Taylor averages 10.4 points to go along with 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Last Time Out
NM State started a five game road trip at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The Aggies were able to take home the 67-65 victory in a back and forth affair at the American Bank Center.
 
After the Islanders opened up a 41-33 lead early in the third quarter, NM State ripped off a 19-6 run to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.  From there, the Aggies would never trail again, making free throws down the stretch to pull out the win.
 
Adenike Aderinto scored a career-high 18 points, including two clutch free throws with 55.2 seconds left. Brooke Salas added 18 points and nine rebounds with Stabresa McDaniel scoring 10. Gia Pack stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and five steals.
