LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's track and field team takes on tough competition at the UTEP Springtime this weekend. The one-day meet is set to take place at UTEP's Kidd Field on Saturday, March 24.
After competing in just one meet this season, senior
Katara Nelson holds the new program record in the 400m. Her time of 52.40 ranks first in the nation and the senior took home Western Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts.
Many other athletes set new personal bests at the Willie Williams Classic including
Hannah Smith, who posted a mark of 12.34m (40-6) in the triple jump to move her into third all-time in the event for the outdoor season.
Taniya Mitchell threw a new personal best of 51.66m (169-6) in the hammer throw and her mark puts the junior in fifth all-time at New Mexico State in the event.
The UTEP Springtime begins on Saturday with the women's hammer throw kicking things off at 10 a.m. MT. Running events begin with the 4x100m relay at 2 p.m. Fans can follow along with the live results from the meet at
