LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State women's tennis players
Quinty Janssen and freshman
Chloe Gavino are set to square off in the White singles draw championship match on Sunday after the conclusion of the second day at the Aggie Invitational.
Â
Doubles action got the day started once again, this time with a pair of Aggie teams battling for a spot in the finals. The NM State duo of
Lindsay Harlas and
Harsha Challa went to battle against their foes from the north and had to play a super tiebreaker and prevailed 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 for a spot in the finals.
Gavi Kalaga and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard couldn't make it an all Aggie finals, but gave their UTEP counterparts a battle in the second set before falling 6-2, 7-5.
Â
The Crimson singles bracket saw both Aggie players in the quarterfinals fall. Keijzerwaard fell first to UTEP's Kirsten Prelle 6-2, 6-0 before Harlas was bested by UNM's Natasha Munday in a back-and-forth battle 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (9).
Â
On the consolation side, Kalaga picked up a win over Mesa Community College's Ana Villavalzo Ferrera 6-1, 7-5 and will face former Aggie and current UTEP player,
Vanessa Valdez. In the back draw, Challa took down Rubio 6-3, 6-4 and will face UNM's Ruth Copas for fifth-place on Sunday while Rubio takes on Yuelin Chen of UNM for seventh-place.
