ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico State track and field closed its run at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational from the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Keosha Sanders set a new program record in the 60m dash during competition on Saturday.
Sanders posted impressive times in both 60m dash races during her first time representing the Crimson and White. The junior placed seventh in the preliminaries when she clocked in at 7.56. She followed her performance by running 7.50 to take fourth in the finals. In the 400m,
Brooke Wallace claimed eighth with a time of 56.27 while
Lanie Whelpley finished with a time of 57.44, placing 10
th in the 400m. Wallace's time ranks third in the NM State record books.
Four Aggies placed among the top-11 in the mile run with
Crissey Amberg taking third with a time of 5:12.63.
Elana Kresl claimed sixth in the race, posting a time of 5:16.62.
Richelle Sandin (5:20.17) and
Leah Salazar (5:20.59) followed closely behind in 10
th and 11
th, respectively.
In the 4x400m relay, the NM State squad of
Takiyah Johnson,
Elizabeth Mendoza, Wallace and Whelpley took home seventh when they clocked in at 3:52.64.
For the field events,
Bristol O'Connor posted a mark of 13.22m (43-4.5) in the shot put to place eighth. In the triple jump,
Hannah Smith claimed third when she posted the mark of 12.27m (40-3.25) on her final attempt.
The Aggies are back in action at the ABQ Convention Center when the squad competed at the New Mexico Collegiate Team Invitational on Saturday, January 26.
