LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team had a strong start to its dual season Sunday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Center by taking down Western New Mexico 6-1.
Doubles action opened things up with the No. 3 and No. 3 doubles team for NM State cleaning house with 6-0 victories over their foes from WNMU before NM State's top doubles pair of
Lindsay Harlas and
Harsha Challa completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.
Gavi Kalaga made quick work of Nicole Gonzalez on court No. 6 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win before Challa bested her opponent at the No. 3 singles slot 6-1, 6-0. Senior
Yadira Rubio clinched the match for the Aggies with a 6-1, 6-0 on court No. 5.
New Mexico State picked up additional wins on court No. 4 after
Chloe Gavino defeated Camila Gomez 6-2, 6-1 and Harlas beating out Jaci Fulgenzi 6-1, 6-1. The Mustangs managed their lone point from the top singles slot at the top singles position in a tie-breaker.
The Aggies will get their road test this upcoming week when they take on a pair of Pac-12 teams in Arizona (Feb. 2) and Arizona State (Feb. 3).
